Chunky Collage Book
We will create a book structure to hold and display interesting bits and pieces, small treasures, pressed leaves and flowers, postage stamps, etc. and other items that will fit within the book. In the first of this two-part class, we will decorate the papers that may be used as the book pages or torn as part of a collage. In the second session, we will assemble the collages and stitch the book. Once the book is constructed, there will be plenty of room to add more items long after the class is over. If you already have collected bits of ephemera you would like to include, bring them to Session 2.
Session 1 – Surface Decoration
This session will offer a variety of water media techniques for decorating paper to be used as part of a collage or a page in the Chunky Collage Book. Bring an apron or wear comfortable old clothes that may have extra decoration or color added during class.
Session 2 – Book Construction
During this session we will create collages for our pages with glue and stitching and then assemble our books. If you have small snippets of text, old letters, postage stamps, pressed leaves and flowers, small bits of handmade papers, fabric, yarn or fibers, feathers, or other small items you would like to include during the Book Construction Session, bring them along! If it can be glued, stitched or included in an envelope or pocket, it can be added to your book.

Exposed Binding with Beads
In our second Book Arts Series, we will create a book that will lay flat when opened in the Exposed Binding with Beads book. Week one will be creating the cover papers and signature wraps with paste paper techniques and the second session will be deciding which of the beautiful papers created will be used for the covers and then stitching the book.
Surface Decoration
The morning session we will decorate our cover papers and signature wraps by creating surface designs with paste and paint. Bring an apron or wear comfortable old clothes that may have extra decoration or color added during class.
Book Construction
The afternoon session we will determine what part of the decorated papers to use for our covers and optional signature wraps. Left over bits may be added to inside pages for an “almost blank book”. Much of the time for this class will be in constructing the book.
